--- Chase: Hollywood Stunt Driver ---

This is another game that was considered really, really bad by just about everyone but us.  But, thanks to an extra level that was put on a demo disc, we got to play it and thought it was a lot of fun.  In fact, this game turned out way better than Stuntman, a similar-themed game that was made by Reflections, who we respect greatly for Destruction Derby and Driver.

Stuntman turned out badly for a couple of reasons.  First, you had to do all your stunts in a given scene in one try.  Mess up, and the game forces you to start over.  And secondly, the load times.  Oh my God, the load times.  They sucked, to say the least, and in a trial-and-error game like Stuntman turned out to be, that's the kiss of death.

Chase avoided both of these problems.  Load times were small.  And the trial-and-error problem was minimized, because you don't have to accomplish everything at once.  You can use as many takes as you need to accomplish the stunts you're supposed to do--it's on film, after all!

Here are a few screens to help explain:

Here's the starting screen of a scene.  It has a list of stunts for you to perform during the filming.
As you play, the stunts (listed on the left) turn translucent as you accomplish them, which #4 and #6 are doing in this shot.
And here's Take 2 of the same scene, with only 3 stunts left to do.  Theoretically, you could do only one stunt per take, no big deal.

That's way better than "one mess up, start over!"
